As US diplomat, Stuart E. Eizenstat has worked extensively in the field of spoliations, playing a key role in talks with several countries as Special Representative of the President of the United States and Secretary of State for Holocaust issues. In 1998, he organized the Washington Conference on Holocaust-Era Assets, which led to the Washington Conference Principles.<br />In his intervention, he refers on the US leadership role on implementing restitution and compensation programs, and on the US government attention on them. He recognizes the hard work done in France and salutes the new European network of restitution advisory panels, but he points what is still to be done, particularly regarding Nazi-looted art in the public museums.
